On 6 May 2010, the Laburnum development made the top six as a finalist in the Best Eco Home category at the annual Grand Designs Awards 2010.
There were 26 entrants in the category. Commenting on the finalists, Kevin McCloud, the TV presenter and author who introduced the Awards, said that it was encouraging that such outstanding British architecture was being produced in such difficult economic circumstances.
Laburnum sold quickly, and is now occupied by a local family, who closely followed the six-month construction process. Initially, they were just impressed by the design of the house - but eventually came to appreciate the eco aspects, so much so they decided to swap their desirable period property for the contemporary Laburnum.
